The decision is expected to provide an impetus for the country’s tourism sector. As per the decision, any foreign tourist who buys goods in Vietnam will receive VAT refunds when leaving the country at two international airports, Noi Bai in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City.

From now on, any foreign tourist leaving Vietnam with an invoice of a minimum VND2 million (US$96) from a single shop or supermarket during the course of a single day will enjoy a VAT refund at the two major airports.

The new law will allow tourists to add many receipts of goods purchased in a single shop in one day only.

The scheme will be implemented at both Hanoi and HCMC airports from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014.
