Top Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem defeated his Brazilian rival Felgaer Ruben in the fourth game in the 2012 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival taking place in the UK from January 24-February 2.
Liem, the fifth top seed in this tournament, with an Elo rating of 2714, launched fierce attacks at the opening of the game and won a victory over Ruben (2571) after 54 moves.
With these results, Liem now ranks fourth with 3.5 marks (three wins, one draw), and has equal marks with the leading competitors.
In the next games, Liem will play the host Short Nigel with an Elo rating of 2677.
Earlier, Liem secured his second win over Spain’s Angelis Salvador (2531) and held a draw with Romania’s Mircea Emilian (2650) in the third game of the tournament.
