As the only foreign team which played baseball in a powerful country, the Vietnamese team made surprise wins and ranked 9th among 18 teams.

Hanoi Capitals in late July participated in the finals of the Gameday USA Midwest 14U Championship in Chicago. The tournament brought together the best teams from the states of Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and Kentucky. The team from Vietnam was the exceptional participant.

At the event, Hanoi Capitals defeated Welles Park for 14-2 and Bridgeport with the score of 9-1, but it lost to two opponents from Detroit and Cincinnati.

Previously, the team played in a small tournament in the state of Michigan and ranked 3rd out of five teams. The team also attended a weeklong baseball training course at the Florida State University.

The Hanoi Capitals baseball club was established five years ago and it used to play in South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and Indonesia.

Similar to the first trip to the US to compete in the tournament for U11 teams, the last tournament the baseball team from Vietnam continued receiving special attention of the American media.

Hanoi Capitals aims to win at least the bronze medal in the Asian Pacific finals for U14 teams. The players of Hanoi Capitals are expected to be the nucleus of the national baseball team of Vietnam when Vietnam hosts the 2019 Asian Games.

The "boss" of the team is Mr. Tom Treutler, an American lawyer living in Hanoi and married a Vietnamese woman. His son, Ben, is also a member of the team.
