A grand meeting was held at National Convention Centre in My Dinh, Hanoi, on October 10 to mark the 60th anniversary of the capital city's Liberation Day.
Present at the event were Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, President of the Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, as well as representatives from central agencies, ministries and localities nationwide.
President Sang took this occasion to confer the prestigious Ho Chi Minh Order on Hanoi municipal authorities and citizens.
Secretary of the Hanoi municipal Party's Committee Pham Quang Nghi highly appreciated great contributions of the late President Ho Chi Minh to the nation and commemorated fallen combatants who had laid down their lives for the national independence and revolutionary cause.
Nghi said despite many ups and downs, Hanoi has successfully fulfil its socio-economic targets. Celebrations of the 1,000th Thang Long-Hanoi anniversary have left deep impressions on both local and international visitors to the capital city.
He highlighted significant economic achievements of the city in recent years, with annual economic growth rate of 5%, or a 1.5 fold increase compared to the country's average figure. Hanoi's GDP accounted for 10%, while its budget collection made up 20% of the country's total amounts.

He emphasized that Hanoi plays a key role in ensuring political security, national defence, and safety for the Party Central Committee, National Assembly, and Government. It is a major venue for important events of the nation and the world.
At present, Hanoi has established relationship with more than 100 capitals and big cities across the world. Fifteen years ago, Hanoi was the unique city in the Asia-Pacific region bestowed the honorary title of the “The City for Peace” by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Nghi noted.
On this occasion, 10 outstanding citizens of Hanoi were honoured, while other 1,120 others were presented with the title “Good people and good deeds” in 2014.
